Terms and Conditions
Last updated September 2026
These terms apply when you buy from Sherwood Pottery through this website. By placing an order you agree to them. Nothing here limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986.
Every piece is handmade
Each piece is individually made and eternalised by fire. Variations in colour, glaze, texture and size are inherent to handmade pottery and are not faults. The photographs show a representative piece rather than the exact one you will receive, and glaze colour can differ between screens.
Prices and payment
Prices are in New Zealand dollars and include GST where it applies. Payment is taken at checkout by Stripe, which handles your card details directly — we never see or store them. Your order is confirmed once Stripe tells us the payment succeeded.
We try to keep prices and stock accurate, but if a piece sells at a market before your order is packed, or a price is listed in obvious error, we may cancel the order and refund you in full. We will contact you first.
Delivery and collection
At checkout you can choose:
- Courier, anywhere in New Zealand — $15 flat. Typically 2–5 business days after dispatch. Rural addresses can take longer.
- Collection — free. We arrange a time with you after your order is placed. Please do not travel to us before we have confirmed one.
Delivery estimates are estimates, not guarantees. Risk in the goods passes to you on delivery or collection.
If something arrives broken
Pottery occasionally does not survive a courier. Tell us within 7 days of delivery and send a photograph of the piece and its packaging, and we will replace it or refund it. Please keep the packaging until the matter is settled — couriers ask for it. You do not pay return postage on a piece that arrived damaged or faulty.
Your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act
Goods we sell to consumers come with guarantees that cannot be excluded. They must be of acceptable quality, match their description, and be fit for the purpose they are ordinarily supplied for. If a piece fails a guarantee you are entitled to a repair, replacement or refund, and to compensation for other reasonably foreseeable loss. Where the failure is substantial, the choice of remedy is yours.
These guarantees do not apply where goods are bought for the purposes of a business, or to damage caused by misuse, an accident, or ordinary wear.
Changing your mind
New Zealand law gives no automatic right to return an item simply because you have changed your mind, and because each piece is made by hand we do not offer this as a matter of course. If you have ordered the wrong thing, contact us — we would rather sort it out than have you keep something you do not want.
Outdoor use
Our pieces are made to live outdoors and are weather resistant. They are not frost-proof in every condition: ceramic that holds water can crack if that water freezes. In hard-frost areas, bring pieces under cover for the winter.
